Ok so when I decided to make Noisegoblin, I fully intended on making it a meme soundboard modeled after the iconic “Random Dancing” remote from iCarly. The whole point was “press button, hear the thing from the show / vine / tiktok that lives rent free in your brain,” and have it be my first web project. I’ve mentioned before I built it because I was bored on my bed. I hate apps or websites that need a phd in navigating shitty complex UI’s. It was meant to be a simple remote. Big buttons. Iconic sounds. Copyrighted mp3 premade inserts. Done.
And then I got lazy. Heh.
Well again, kinda.
The problem is, I was aware the sounds weren’t mine. I even placed a little “please don’t sue me I’m not making money off this” note on the page like that was gonna save me. It was still meant as a free project, but I wasn’t going to risk getting sued or having the website be taken down. Finding and uploading the sounds was also becoming a major pain in my ass. So that’s done.
What Noisegoblin Is Now
It’s now a DIY soundboard.
You upload your own audio. Up to 50 files, 3MB each. You pick 17 for the remote. You can slap an emoji or a photo on the buttons. You can change the background, the remote color, even drop your own pic behind the whole thing. Everything lives in your browser. It’s your sounds, on your device. (Plus it’s easier on both my end and your end.)
You bring the clips you actually have the right to use. The ones you recorded. The ones your friend sent. The remote is just the shell now. You fill it.
Why This Version Works More Anyway
The meme soundboard was more of a test anyway. Streamers, editors, group chats, people who need a button that says the exact silly phrase their friend always says — that’s who this is for. You just put the file in and hit it. Also the UI is simple enough and the only thing I care about and for my users. No 47 settings. No account. No “sign in with google to continue.” Open the site, upload, customize, mash buttons. If it feels like a toy remote sitting on a coffee table that’s on purpose.
Go make your remote at noisegoblin.com. Upload the sounds that are actually yours. Make the ugliest / prettiest remote you can. Send it to your group chat. Annoy people on purpose. If you want to throw a couple bucks at the donate button please feel free! If you don’t, also cool. The project stays free either way. Thanks! ✌
